“Ruth” je portret portugalskog društva, kako matičnog tako i kolonijalnog, početkom 60-ih godina, kroz priču o mladom mozambičkom nogometašu imena Eusébio, talentiranom sportašu iz kluba Sporting Clube Lourenço Marques, kojeg poželi i angažira suparnički klub, Benfica. Ucjene, pokušaji otmice, upletenost ministara, senzacionalistički naslovi u novinama i milijunska obećanja pretvaraju priču o transferu nogometaša – dječaka kojega nitko nikada nije vidio kako igra – u pravu sagu koja se odvija na dva kontinenta. Film prikazuje početke zahtjevnog puta Eusébija da Silva Ferreire prema onome što je danas: legenda svjetskog nogometa.

António Pinhão Botelho mladi je portugalski glumac i redatelj, rođen u Lisabonu 1986. Diplomirao je na Visokoj školi za kazalište i film 2008. godine. Godine 2014. režira kratki film O Rio, a u dugometražnim filmovima debitira 2018. filmom Ruth, koji donosi dio životne priče Eusébija da Silva Ferreire, jednog od najupečatljivijih portugalskih nogometaša. Bio je i pomoćnik redatelja na filmovima Crna knjiga (O Livro Negro, Valéria Sarmiento, 2018.) i Imanje (A Herdade, Tiago Guedes, 2019.).
